12.10.2011 CER Paul Ricard and Estoril - Report ... back

The Estoril event was succesful for Philipp Brunn in the Porsche 3.0 RS. After a 2nd place in the GT2 class at Silverstone he finished third in GT2 at Estoril. Philippe Scemama had a troublesome weekend. Free practice (6th) and qualifying 1 (5th overall) showed the potential of the package. An engine failure in qualifying 2 ended the weekend, as there was not enough time to change the engine until the race.

Paul Ricard started well for the Sauber. Yves and Philippe Scemama shared the car. They positioned the car 6th in the free practice session. Qualifying was compromised by the gearbox and two competitors. Philippe started the race from position 16 on the grid and improved to 3rd position until his pit stop. Yves took over but was slowed by a misfire (possibly caused by a damaged crank sensor). Finally he had to stop the car on 9th position after 45 minutes.

Philipp Brunn raced the Porsche 3.0 RS and was again fastest of the 911s at the track. Due to constant lap times and a troublefree race he finished 4th in the GT2 class. This puts the 3.0 RS on 3rd position in the overall GT2 classification. After the race the scrutineers decided to check the capacity of the engine in the 3.0 RS. The engine was opened immidiately at the track to stop any speculation about its legality. The measurements done by Jean-Jacques Paoletti confirmed the engines capacity, bore (95mm) and stroke (70.4mm) to be in accordance with the HTP. The engine of another competitor (911 RSR) is to be opened by an engine builder and the scrutineers during the next days / weeks.
